Parent Council News - May 2013

The next Parent Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 14th at 9:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room. We hope to see you there.

We are also looking for new volunteers to fill Parent Council positions which will be open for the next school year.  If you are interested in finding out more about these roles, please feel free to contact us: jeniferglover@rogers.com or ninatkm@yahoo.ca.

Volunteers needed!
The After 4 Committee of the Parent Council needs 2 new volunteers to lead the program for the school year 2013-2014. This role requires researching new vendors, connecting with the After 4 vendors at the beginning of each semester to plan the program and maintain relationships, preparing the registration forms and working with the Office to coordinate logistics and obtain approval of the text, then managing the registration forms and class lists at the beginning of each semester's program, fielding questions from parents, and arranging vendor payment and invoices with Council Treasurer. It is a significant time commitment particularly in September, January, and March, but well worth it as the program is of great benefit to the Brown School community. If you are interested in volunteering for this opportunity please contact Jenifer Glover, Co-Chair, jeniferglover@rogers.com.

On behalf of Parent Council we extend our heartfelt thanks to Kiren Singh and Cathy Steiner who ran this program on behalf of the Parent Council.

Garden Fete is two weeks away...
New this year: photo booth, henna tattoos!  As before, we have live music, games and bouncy castles, scrumptious BBQ, healthy salads, prize table, and good clean fun. And this year, it will run a full hour longer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Who could ask for more?

We can! We still need more parents to volunteer to help out the day of, in order to make Garden Fete happen.  It is a community effort and we need at least 200 parents to sign up.  If you have not received a sign-up link from your class rep, please contact your class rep.

Our goal this year is to produce only one bag of garbage for landfill. Suggestions to help reduce waste at the event:
  • Bring a water bottle, coffee mug or cup from home and you will be rewarded with free lemonade and coffee.
  • If you forget to bring you own drink container, compostable cups will be provided but there will be a cost for lemonade and coffee.
  • Sort all your waste at the Eco-Depot. There are categories for all the types of waste, and volunteers will be there to answer any questions.

The class that sells the most advance Play All Day passes will receive a pizza lunch!
