BROWN SCHOOL ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT
The Athletics Department is excited to get our Sports teams underway here at Brown. The coaches have met and have organized a schedule for tryouts and team practices for the following teams:
Grade 1 to 6 Cross Country Running Team
Grade 4 to 6 Boys and Girls Touch Football Teams
Grade 4 to 6 Boys and Girls Slo-Pitch Teams

With our newly developed school website we will be updating the "Athletics Calendar" so that parents can view dates, times and locations for tryouts and practices. We will update the calendar weekly so please use the following as your go-to Sports information tool. www.brownschool.ca/athletics. The calendar had been updated to include Football, Slo-Pitch and Cross Country important information, so be sure to check it out.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING TEAM
If your child wishes to participate in Cross-Country, please read the information below.

As the parent of a primary cross country runner (Grades 1-3), here is what you will be committing to:

PRACTICES
Parents of children in grades 1 & 2 must escort their children (or arrange for another adult to do so, not a teacher) and stay for the entire practice.  They will take place at the north end of Sir Winston Churchill Park.  You can meet the coaches in the school playground at 7:30 AM and walk to the park together or meet at the play structures just north of the tennis courts in the park at 7:45 AM

The practice schedule is as follows:
Tuesday @ 7:30 - Grade 4, 5, 6 (Junior)
Wednesday @ 7:30 Grade 1, 2, 3 (Primary)
Friday @ 7:30 Grade 1 to 6 (Primary and Junior)

MEETS
On the day of the meet, Grades 1, 2 and 3 students must be transported to the meet by a parent or guardian.  Primary students will also need to be supervised by their parents at the park.  Junior students will travel to and from the meet via school bus. As indicated below, the first meet takes place at Ashbridges Bay (Lakeshore & Coxwell).  The meets begin at 10 AM with the Grade 1 Girls followed by the Grade 1 Boys.  As well, before taking your child to the meet, you must stop by the school to pick up a t-shirt and a label with your child’s information.  If you prefer, you will be able to pick up the t-shirt and label the day before the meet, Monday, October 6 after school in the equipment room by the gym.  At the end of the meet, parents are responsible for transporting their Grades 1, 2 and 3 children back to the school.  Parents are also asked to wash the t-shirt and return it to school with their child.

If your child qualifies at the first meet on Monday, October 7th, he or she will return to compete at the South Conference Finals on Monday, October 20th and possibly go on to the City Finals on October 27th.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY STUDENTS IN GRADE 3 to 6 ARE ELIGIBLE TO QUALIFY FOR THE MEET ON OCT 20TH & 27TH.

First Meet - Ashbridges Bay (Lakeshore & Coxwell)  Tuesday, Oct 7
Conference Finals - Ashbridges Bay (Lakeshore & Coxwell) Monday, Oct 20
City Finals - Centennial Park, Etobicoke Monday, Oct 27

Distances
Grades 1 & 2 - 1000 metres
Grade 3 - 1500 metres
Grades 4 to 6 - 2000 metres

If you and your child are ready to take all of this on, then we would love to have you join us!

Please meet the coaches five minutes before the start of the practice for attendance. Attendance is important because we need to know who is going to the race. Attendance at a minimum of three practices is required; otherwise, it will be assumed that your child is not going to the meet.

There is no need to sign up, just show up before the practice and check in with a coach for the attendance.

Additional information will be posted near the gym doors, on the school website at www.brownschool.ca/athletics, via the morning announcements and in letters to the runners.

Yours in running,

The X-Country Coaches

PHYSICAL & HEALTH EDUCATION
Brown School is very fortunate to offer all students two Physical and Health classes per week. A reminder to parents to check their child's timetable so that you are aware of which days to send your child to school with running shoes so that they can get the most out of the program.
