News from around Brown - February 2014

RAINBOW LOOM CLUB

The Grade 3/4 Rainbow Loom Club started off the new year learning some new patterns.  The triple link proved to be quite challenging.  We even have a few members who are eager to teach us some of their own creations.  The club will continue until March break on Tuesdays at lunch.

MUSIC NEWS - JUNIOR CHOIR
The junior choir is singing "The Star Spangled Banner" and a song of our choice "Al Tambor" at the Marlies game on Sunday, February 23rd. Choir members can either take a bus with the choir or meet the choir at the Ricoh Centre at 1:00 p.m. for our sound check.

Leanne Allicock will meet us outside Door 35 located in the back of the arena.  Students taking the bus must meet at Brown PS by 12:15 p.m..  The hockey game does not start until 4 p.m.

Choir members should bring snacks, books, cards, games etc so we have something to do during the wait between sound check and the performance.  A water bottle is a must.  Cough drops and/or hard candies are also a good idea. No gum please.

Choir members are asked to wear dark bottoms and white tops with no writing or designs on them.

The bus will pick us up from Ricoh Coliseum at 7 p.m. and return us to the Brown.  We aim to return by 7:30 p.m. but that will depend on the traffic.

On March 27th, our Junior Choir will participate in the TDSB Choral Music Festival.  The choir will perform at the Bickford Centre, 777 Bloor St. W at 12:30 p.m..  The choir will travel by TTC.  Any parents who would like to help supervise our trip on the TTC would be very much appreciated. Choir members are asked to wear dark bottoms and white tops.  Water bottles are recommended.  Choir members will eat lunch early and leave Brown at 11:30 a.m.

WORLD CHANGERS UPDATE

February is "We Are Love" month for World Changers and we have kicked things off with a Random Acts of Kindness campaign. Students from all grades are encouraged to spontaneously seek to take care of others around them and many of these good deeds are recorded on sticky notes and now cover the bulletin board across from the office. Great job everyone - keep up the kindness!

Back by popular demand in time for Valentine's Day, World Changers will be selling button-grams during lunch hour from Monday, February 10 through Friday, February 14. Each button-gram costs $2 and funds raised will go to support building a school in Ghana through Free The Children.

As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact co-chairs Allison Fortier <allisonfortier@rogers.com> or Laura Finch <laura.finch@me.com>.
