Should Rob Ford Be Our Mayor?
Do you know a man named Rob Ford?  He is our mayor.  Have you ever wondered why Rob Ford is always in the news and the newspaper?  More than our previous mayors?  Well, today I am going to tell you why.  And then I’d like to convince you that Rob Ford should no longer be our mayor.

One of the reasons why I think Rob Ford should not be our mayor is because he has been seen on video smoking crack cocaine, an illegal drug.  It is against the law to smoke crack!  And he could get addicted to it!  When everyone knows that he smokes crack cocaine they will think that Rob Ford should not be our mayor.  It is really surprising that Rob Ford gets to break the law while no one else does!  Is that crazy or what?

The second reason that Rob Ford should not be our mayor is because he has done drunk driving.  The newspapers reported that Rob Ford admitted that he did drunk driving.  He said that he had alcoholic drinks and has done drunk driving.  If he drinks and drinks and drinks he will be caught again for drinking and driving.  If one time he drinks and drives and he kills someone it will be really, really horrible!  Also, he could go to jail!  He has had his powers already taken away from him for the first illegal thing he did.  I would not want to be Rob Ford right now!

The third reason why Rob Ford should not be our mayor is because Rob Ford is a really bad role model to kids and grownups, too.  He should be more responsible so that kids and grownups will see his as a positive role model.  Then adults would vote for him (and that would be good for him).  But he does the opposite!  So you see what I mean.  I bet he has a really weird life!

Do you see now?  Rob Ford smokes illegal drugs, he drinks and drives, he is not responsible, and he is a bad role model!  This is why Rob Ford should not be our mayor.  We have some excellent new people who are trying to become the new mayor of Toronto soon.  I hope that these people have good qualities like being nice, not breaking the law, not drinking and driving, and not smoking illegal drugs.  Rob Ford does all these things.  Let’s keep Rob Ford out of power!

Should Fighting in Hockey Be Banned?
Some people think fighting is the most original part of hockey.  Well, I don’t!  Have you ever had the frustration of the hockey game stopping because of a fight?  Even if you haven’t, trust me it sucks!  I’m here to tell you why fighting should be banned from hockey!

If players fight in the NHL, OHL, or the AHL it influences kids such as my little brother W. who is four years old.  Every day he says, “J, do you want to fight?”  He also says to my Dad, “When I grow up I want to fight and knock a guy out.”  Can you believe that?  Kids should not want to fight and players should be good role models for younger children.

Another reason why players shouldn’t be allowed to fight is that they could get seriously hurt.  It has happened hundreds of time.  For example, last year Colton Orr of the Toronto Maple Leafs and George Parros of the Montreal Canadiens fought on the ice.  Can you guess what happened?  While they were fighting, Orr brought Parros down with him.  Before you knew it, Parros was out cold.  He had a concussion which is a brain injury.  Fighting can cause many injuries like concussions, a bloody nose, lip, or a broken nose.  If you see Tie Domi’s face it is all mashed up.  No one should want to look like that!  Now you can see why fighting in hockey is such a bad idea.

Another reason why I think fighting should be banned is hockey is really about Teamwork, Skill, and knowing the Rules.  It is not about pushing and punching.  Fighting isn’t even a skill you learn.  That’s why fighting should be banned from the game.

I hope now that I’ve convinced you that fighting is bad.  Some AHL players want NHL coaches to see their real skills, not fighting.  So stop dropping your gloves and get into the game!

Should We Protect Endangered Animals?
Have you ever wondered what would happen if an animal became extinct?  Have you ever wondered how animals help other animals and our world?  Well, I would like to tell you how and why we should protect animals, especially endangered ones.

Did you know that if one animal became extinct then lots of others could, too?  For example, let’s say that the polar bear became extinct.  Polar bears eat seals and seals eat fish.  If the polar bear became extinct then seals would become overpopulated because they wouldn’t be eaten any longer (no predator).  Well that causes a problem.  Seals still need to eat.  So they could eat all the fish causing that type of fish to go extinct.  Then if the seal’s main source of food goes extinct, then the seal could go extinct!!  So by one species going extinct two others could, too.

I love to learn about animals.  But if an animal became extinct then no one would be able to learn about it because it would be gone from the world forever.  This is a huge problem.  Some animals are similar to us like chimpanzees and gorillas.  We can learn things about us from these animals.  Maybe we can find the cure for cancer by studying these animals.  Or maybe some neat jetpack will be invented because of the information we learn from an animal.  But if it goes extinct that’s not possible!

Did you know that some animals help their habitat?  For example if the prairie dog was extinct then plants in its habitat would not grow.  How?  Well, the prairie dog digs and mixes the topsoil and the bottom soil which helps certain plants grow.  Without the prairie dog it is possible for plants to suffer.
So that is why we should protect endangered animals.  If you want to help then you could join groups like the Earth Rangers.  Remember we are animals, too.  So get off your butt and start helping animals so that we can have an awesome world of awesome animals!
