EARTH DAY (United Nations)
April 22, 2015

Recognizing Earth Day reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living
species and the planet we all inhabit. It is a day to recognize the responsibility we have to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a balance between economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations.

Forty-two years after the first Earth Day, the world is in greater peril than ever. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents the greatest opportunity – an unprecedented opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future.

Earth Day can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Earth Day Network is galvanizing millions who make personal commitments to sustainability. It is a pivotal opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day.

What will you do during Earth Week?
On Friday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m., students from across Toronto are encouraged to help rejuvenate our city’s green spaces by picking up litter in their school yard or neighbourhood park.  Schools may also choose to hold their clean-up event during Earth Week, April 20-24. You’ll be amazed at what can be accomplished in as little as 20 minutes! What will you do?
