SUPERVISION HOURS

The school offers supervision between the hours of 8:25 am and 3:25 pm. This means that children cannot be at school before or after these hours - as they will not be supervised. We know that many families enjoy staying after school with their child, however the Daycare actually has the yard permit from 3:25 pm. This means that children must go straight home once dismissed, whether they have an adult with them or not. Please remind your children to head home, after they are dismissed from school. Thank you.

SCOOTERS

Please remember that for safety reasons, scooters must be parked outside at the bike racks. We do not have the space to keep them in a location inside the school while still allowing for student and staff safety.

ROOFING

There will be a roofing meeting, October 20th at 5:30 pm in the gym. If you are interested in learning about our roof repairs from TDSB, please join us on the 20th. There will be a Parent Council meeting following this roofing meeting.

CONTACT INFORMATION

Please ensure that we have your most current contact information in our database. It is imperative that we be able to reach you in case of an emergency.

Also, to those families whose children use Unicorn Daycare before and/or after care - if you have new instructions, or instructions specific to a particular day, or instructions about your child's absence, you must inform BOTH the school office AND the daycare. While we share the space in this building, we do not share databases or offices and, because the day is so busy, it is not possible to relay information. Please remember to communicate with both offices.

PRIMARY SWIM TEAM

Over the past 2 weeks we have had a chance to work with all Grade 2s & 3s who have been interested in joining this year's team.

While timing both Freestyle & Backstroke, students have had an opportunity to demonstrate stroke style, strength, and consistency.

A final team list will be posted after Thanksgiving. This list will be located outside the Pool Office & Gymnasium. Unfortunately, we are unable to invite all interested students to be members of this year's team.

***Practices***
Team practices are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays during the lunch hour (team members are expected to attend a minimum of 2 practices per week). Practices will begin the week of October 19th.

SPORTS CORNER

GIRLS FOOTBALL
The team will play in an all day tournament on Thursday, October 15th @ Deer Park PS. Mr. D and Mr. P will meet  the team at Deer Park (23 Ferndale Ave near Yonge & St. Clair) on the morning of October 15th @ 7:30 am as our first game kicks off at 8:15 am sharp. It will be great for the girls to arrive on time to see the game between Deer Park and Whitney, which starts at 7:30 am. Most of our team members have never really played an organized game before so if they can watch the first game of the day we feel that it would be helpful.

Here is our schedule for the day:
Game # 1 - 8:15 am vs. Deer Park
Game # 2 - 9:45 am vs. Ossington
Game # 3 - 12:00 pm vs. Clinton
Game # 4 - 1:30 pm vs. Whitney

At the conclusion of the final game the team members will need some help to get back to school. The parent drivers would need to pick up the team members at 2:15 pm and take them back to Brown PS.

Your daughter needs to bring with them the following items:
Team T-Shirt (I will provide that to the team members)
Cleats or Running Shoes
Dress in layers as the weather is getting colder (we'll be outside for the majority of the day)
A toque/hat is a good idea.
A bagged lunch with plenty to drink for the day

BOYS FOOTBALL
The Boys Football Team finished their tournament with 2 wins and 2 losses and advanced to the semi-finals. The semi-final game will take place on Monday, October 19th @ 9:30 am. vs Whitney. The game will be played at Deer Park PS. GO PANTHERS!

ECO COMMITTEE

Brown's Eco Committee has been rebooted! We're really excited about the year ahead. Our goal for this year is to get Brown "Eco-Schools" status again. If you are interested in helping the committee we have a lot of exciting initiatives planned. But most of all we would like you and your child to participate.

Trashy Tuesdays - Once a month, starting this Tuesday, October 13th, the children and parents of Brown will help to pick up the litter that is in the school yard. This is a great message to our kids about being aware of littering. Gloves and bags will be provided to everyone. Meet us in the JK/SK/Grade 1 playground at 3:10 pm.

Walk to School Wednesdays - Every Wednesday while the weather is fair, Brown children are encouraged to ABC to school. That's Anything But Car! We'd like to see our Kiss 'n Ride volunteers sitting idle and our children rosy-cheeked from walking or rolling to school. Please pledge to walk with your children to school every Wednesday and set the example that what's good for our bodies is good for our environment!

Litterless Lunches - Brown school children are encouraged to pack a litterless lunch. Every week, we'll be giving parents tips and ideas about how to pack a great litterless lunch for their kids. We're also working with the Brown Wear committee to offer Bento Boxes and other reusable containers that will help parents pack eco-friendly lunches.

And we have another exciting announcement! Brown is applying for the first year of the TDSB Healthy Schools Certification and hope to get a "Healthy School Designation" for Brown this year. Find out more about it here. www.ophea.net/healthy-schools-certification
