2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
The teachers at Brown, along with the school administration will be meeting in the Spring to place students into their classes for next year. We spend a lot of time together aiming to form classes of children together who will work well together. When we form classes we take different things into consideration including; gender balances, learning styles and social/emotional factors. We want every child to be successful.
While we do not take requests for specific teachers, we know that you know your child best and are happy to hear from you. If you would like to share information that you feel is relevant to your child's learning and/or social well-being please e-mail Jessica (jessica.feldberg@tdsb.on.ca), Christine (christine.pouliot@tdsb.on.ca) and the classroom teacher. We will do our best to work with this information, along with the information from the teachers, to place your child in an environment that fosters their success.
SUPPORTING THOSE IN FORT MCMURRAY
Please bring a toonie on Tuesday to support those from Fort McMurray. All donations will be made to Red Cross.

EDIBLE GARDEN: COMING SOON - BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The seeds are sprouting and the students are busy finding a name for the Brown School edible garden but we need your help to transform the primary yard into a growing space! Please come and join us on Wednesday May 18th, from 8:45am until about 11am, to assemble the garden.
Under the expert guidance of The Bowery Project (you may have read about them in The Star or heard them on CBC radio earlier this week), we will be lining crates with landscape cloth liners, filling them with beautiful organic soil and then planting them up with either seedlings that the students have grown indoors or seeds.
The students can fill the crates and plant them with seeds but we need adult assistance to staple the liners to the crates and to put them in place in the yard. No gardening experience necessary! Please email aviva@awittenberg.com if you can help us build this exciting new learning space in the yard.
BROWN CLOTHING - NEXT POP-UP: THURSDAY MAY 12TH
Get your Panther pride on with a new selection of Brown branded items, including new colours and styles for spring. We've got hoodies, sweatpants, baseball T's, as well as some brand new items including foldable sunglasses and wristbands! Thanks to everyone who came by yesterday. We'll be popping up again on Thursday, May 12th from 2:45-3:45pm. And we'll also be on site during Garden Fete!

FREE SPEAKER SERIES - TALK WITH OUR KIDS ABOUT MONEY
"Talk With Our Kids About Money" is a program developed by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) and BMO Financial Group. The Program encourages parents with children of all ages to have "talks" about money in fun and engaging ways. The website - talkwithourkidsaboutmoney.com, provides all sorts of ideas for parents - things that are easy to do and serve as a means to engage young people in talks about money - and to build more comfort in having such talks.
Kevin Maynard, Vice-President of the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education will be speaking with us on Wednesday May 18th regarding the "Talk With Our Kids About Money" Program, and taking us through some of the free activities and resources that are available on the website.
AVENUE ROAD DROP-OFF
There is NO safe drop-off zone on Avenue Road.
1. Stopping on Avenue Road to let a child out of the car is extremely unsafe.
2. The North Driveway of the school is NOT ACCESSIBLE to parents. This area needs to be reserved for AUTHORIZED users only.
Please think twice before using either of these areas to drop off your children. WE HAVE CONTACTED POLICE SERVICES TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND THEY WILL BE MONITORING THE DRIVEWAY AND AVENUE ROAD.
Driving around the block is a pain, but is it worth a life?
TRASHY TUESDAYS
Trashy Tuesdays are starting again! Please meet us in the primary playground on Tuesday May 3rd, where we'll be handing out garbage bags and your child can participate in picking up the trash in our school yard. It's a great way to contribute to our Brown Community AND it only takes 10-15 minutes! If you're interested in volunteering as a parent, please contact Jen Lockwood jealockwood@gmail.com
