EXPLORE IT!

Explore It! is happy to be offering a wide variety of fun and educational programs for your children during the Winter 2017 term. Programs are being offered during lunch time and after school. Program information and a link to registrations are available through the Brown page on our web site - http://www.exploreitall.ca/registrations/brown-public-school

Explore It! Instructors will pick up all JK and SK students from their classrooms at 3:10pm and walk them to our program space. Students are supervised at all times while in our care. All children in after school programs stay with us until signed out by a parent or designated adult or by Unicorn after care.

Be assured that Explore It! Instructors hold clear background checks and have a passion for the subject areas they teach and are graduate students, certified teachers or professionals in their fields.

Please register online as soon as possible as programs will close without notice when full. Popular programs do fill up early. A program that is still below the minimum a week before the scheduled start date will be canceled.

Avoid disappointment and register now at - http://www.exploreitall.ca/registrations/brown-public-school

Kind Regards,

Randy Dobson

WORLD CHANGERS

Many thanks to all who contributed to World Changers' We Scare Hunger campaign in October with donations of non-perishable items. We raised 1177 pounds of food for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Nice work everyone!

The WC team have been busy with a couple of different initiatives in November and December. For the past couple of weeks we have been selling beautiful blinking red noses for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success - a registered TDSB charity that advocates for students and provides programming to deal with the hunger, poverty and violence some of them encounter (final tally to come but noses have been selling fast!)

World Changers have also been working hard gathering items in each classroom for our Holiday Hampers. Parent Council generously donated an additional $2000 to provide extra grocery gift cards for each hamper. The TDSB Social Work team arrived on Friday to pick up the loot for the 26 families we supported and were once again overwhelmed by the generosity of the Brown P.S. community. Many, many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped sort through all of the goodies and to everyone for your thoughtfulness - you have made a big difference in the lives of these families this holiday season.

And for all you holiday shoppers out there, if you're looking for something a bit different to give consider the gift of charity. It's a win-win whether you choose to support World Changers' organizations, such as We, Plan Canada, Daily Bread, Syrian refugees or Toronto Foundation for Student Success, or a cause that has special meaning to you or the recipient.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact co-chairs Allison Fortier
(allison.fortier@rogers.com) and Laura Finch (laura.finch@me.com).
All the best for the Holidays!

KISS AND RIDE

Please keep the following in mind during morning drop-off:

This is a gentle reminder that Kiss & Ride is a drop off zone, on Poplar Plains Road, for students grades 1-6 only. Kindergarten children must be walked to their classrooms.

This program is staffed completely by Brown parent volunteers, from 8:25-8:40am.

  • When using Kiss & Ride, drivers must stay in the vehicle; volunteers will open the doors for your child(ren) on the passenger side of the car.
  • If you must enter the schoolyard or your child is not able to walk in alone you need to park on one of the side streets where parking is permitted.
  • Parking in the Kiss'n'Ride zone is NOT permitted.
  • For safety reasons, the Avenue Road Driveway is only to be used by TDSB Facilities staff, and Brown Administration.
  • Please note that the parking lot off Poplar Plains is for Brown School Staff only.
  • Our program relies on volunteers. Please be courteous with our Kiss & Ride volunteers!
