SPORTS NEWS

FOOTBALL

Boys

Mr. D and I have been involved in some very tense Football Finals over the years and this year's championship game was no different, a late touchdown propelled the Boys to a comeback victory and crowned them 2016 South Conference Champions!

After a shaky first half the Boys were down 3-0 but agreed in the halftime huddle that this one was not over yet...boy were they right! A great defence and an offence that began to warm up just in the knick of time was the perfect recipe for a Brown School victory!

City Championship - Tuesday Nov 1st: details have been emailed to the parents.

Girls
A great Girls' Football season has come an end with a tough loss in the South Conference Finals. The team worked very hard for several weeks and learned very quickly how to play the great game of football. We really enjoyed playing the Championship game in front of our schoolmates and even though they didn't win it will be a memory that will last forever. Go Panthers!

ICE HOCKEY TEAM (Grade 4 to 6)

If your child is in Grade 4, 5 or 6 and has at least 2 years of House League experience, they are eligible for trying out for the school Hockey team. There was a sign up meeting on Friday Oct 28th at morning recess in the Gym with Mr. Profiti. All students who signed up should attend the tryouts which take place on:

Thurs Nov 3rd - 7:30 to 8:30am at Forest Hill Arena
and
Thurs Nov 10th - 7:30 to 8:30am at Forest Hill Arena

After the 2nd and final tryout the team will be picked and a list will be posted outside the Gym. If your child is selected to be a part of the team, practices will take place on the following dates:

Thursday Nov 17th @ 7:30 to 8:30am at Forest Hill Arena
Friday Dec 9th @ 8:00 to 9:00am at Forest Hill Arena
Friday Dec 16th @ 8:00 to 9:00am at Forest Hill Arena
Wed Dec 22nd @ 8:00 to 9:00am at Forest Hill Arena

GIRLS BASKETBALL

This year there will be two Girls' Basketball teams, a Gr. 4/5 team and a Gr. 6 team. We will be holding early morning tryouts very soon. More information will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the Gym.
EDIBLE GARDEN

Aviva Wittenberg was at the school making infused water with the Primary and Junior World Changers, with the herbs from the edible garden. It was a huge success!
Thanks to the help of some of the Grade 3 and Grade 6 World Changers students who guided the little younger children along, the children all had the chance to make their own jars of infused water and smell and taste the herbs that we grew. We now have a smelling station for different children to experience. Thank you to all involved!
RAINY DAYS

When it rains during the school day students remain inside for recess and lunch recess. During the lunchtime and lunch recesses on rainy days children remain in the gym and a G-rated movie is put on for the children to enjoy.

We will also be offering a different option for families who would prefer their child is not watching a movie. One lunchroom supervisor will be available in a classroom to offer art supplies to the children to use in their creations. Please talk to your child if you want them to go to the art room on rainy days, as this will be a self-directed choice.
PRIMARY SWIM TEAM UPDATE

Over the past 2 weeks we have had a chance to work with all Grades 2/3s who have been interested in joining the team.

While timing both Freestyle & Backstroke, students have had an opportunity to demonstrate stroke style, strength, and consistency.

A final team list will be posted Friday (Oct 21). This list will be located outside the Pool Office, & Gymnasium. Unfortunately, we are unable to invite all interested students to be members of the team, this year.

Team practices are held Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays during the lunch hour (team members are expected to attend a minimum of 2 practices per week).

Practices will begin the week of October 24th.

CANADA 150 TULIPS - HIGHWAY OF HEROES

As a result of a recent initiative, Brown PS has received 50 rare and unique tulip bulbs to plant in front of the school along the brick wall along Avenue Rd (as shown in the picture). The Eco Committee, parent volunteers and their kids will be responsible for planting the bulbs, on Tue Nov 1, 2016 at 3:00 pm (weather permitting).

In order to receive these bulbs, specially created in the Netherlands for Canada's 15Oth birthday celebration, Brown PS has pledged to fundraise to contribute to the planting and maintenance of trees along the Highway of Heroes (401); the route for funeral convoys carrying fallen Canadian Forces service men and women from CFB Trenton to the coroner's office in Toronto.

We kindly ask for a toonie donation via your child's teacher to help with this wonderful eco initiative that will help beautify the school environment, along with honouring those who have made such a vital contribution to our way of life, and participating in telling the story of Canadian Veterans. FALL FLING - WINE GARDEN DONATIONS NEEDED

Calling All Parents!-  Wine Garden Donations Needed

Brown Junior Public School is preparing for our annual Fall Fling and we are hoping that you would consider contributing to our silent auction.  In addition to the regular silent auction we have every year, this year we are focusing on a silent auction Wine Garden.

Do you have a bottle of wine taking up space on your counter?
Or
Too much of the 2004 Beringer Napa Valley Cabernet or the 2005 Hess Allomi Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in your cellar and know you need to drink it now but can't because you want to get into the Bridesmaid Red instead?

Well, please consider donating it to our wine garden!

Thank you for your generosity!  We hope to have the privilege of setting up a great spot for it on our auction table at the Fall Fling.

All wine donations should be dropped off in the principal's office for safekeeping, or please contact the fall fling committee to arrange for pick up!

Please note: students should not be transporting wine to the school.
