2012 PARENT CENSUS
The purpose of the Student and Parent Census is to collect student data that will help the TDSB and its schools to improve achievement levels for all students while closing the achievement gap for students in need. The analysis of the data allows us to:
  • Identify and eliminate systemic barriers to student achievement
  • Reallocate resources to where they are most needed
  • Establish effective programs and interventions to help our most vulnerable students
  • Advocate for resources and funding from external partners to support students and schools who require such support

UPDATE ON LABOUR AGREEMENTS
As mentioned last week and as reported in the media, the government has been engaging in renewed talks directly with the federations. Trustees, through the Ontario Public School Boards' Association have been advising the government on a number of aspects providing expert advice on matters that have an impact on protecting students and ensuring that school boards have the ability to provide the best learning environments for student success. OPSBA has also ensured that information reflecting the concerns of our member boards have been put forward throughout the process, including on matters that would affect reasonable implementation of any provisions under discussion. For example, we are thrilled that Reg274 (Seniority Hiring) and PPM155 (Diagnostic Assessment restrictions) have been sent to committee for further study… it is our hope they will be rescinded. Both arose directly out of Bill 115 and both put adult interests ahead of student achievement and well-being. Although information has been released by OSSTF and ETFO, we are waiting on details in order to understand the implications of the changes.
