GIRLS SOCCER

GRADE 4/5

Our Girls participated in a one-day tournament at Lawrence Heights MS and came out to flying start with a 7-0 victory. The team played very well in their next two matches and ended up just falling short of making the playoffs. We look forward to this group of Girls making up the core of next year's team. Thanks to the parents for all your support!

GRADE 6

This year's edition of the Grade 6 Girls Soccer team had several players who have been playing on our school team for several years now. The team was in fine form at our tournament and we finished in 2nd place thus booking a spot in the playoffs.

In our Quarter Final match, we were up against a very tough team from Cosburn but the Girls from Brown showed great determination and team spirit throughout the match. Our Girls got off to a flying start and scored the opening goal of the match much to the surprise of the home crowd at Cosburn. Unfortunately, a few bad bounces went against us and Cosburn won the match by a score of 2-1. We wish the Grade 6 Girls all the best in their future school soccer endeavours.

BOYS SOCCER

GRADE 4/5

This year, the Boys on the Grade 4/5 team were undefeated!  With unparalleled levels of endurance and skill, we all thought this stacked team was going to go far.  The Boys had a couple of tie games in their tournament that prevented them from advancing.  Next year, these Boys will be back with a vengeance!

GRADE 6

There's one word that comes to mind when looking at the quality of play from this year's Grade 6 boys soccer team: elegance. Honestly, the way this group came together did true justice to "the beautiful game."

As much as it was beautiful, however, it was also harsh to see a goal squeak through to bring us to a 0-1 loss in a game that we had absolutely dominated in terms of possession.  I've never been as impressed with the fine skills from a group of elementary school soccer players, despite the fact that it was a short-but-sweet season!

GRADE 6 WATER POLO

The  Water Polo team made up of 24 Grade 6 Boys & Girls were at Keele St. P.S. in late May to play in a one-day tournament versus Keele and Allenby. Our school showed so much interest in this sport that we had to make 2 full teams.

The students had been training for over a month during the lunch hour and were ready to go. Both teams showed great team work and spirit and at the conclusion of the tournament each team won a medal...SILVER and BRONZE! Well done Brown.

TRACK & FIELD

Our Track team consisted of 46 students from Grade 3 to 6. All competitors will really excited about the first meet on May 12th @ Birchmount. The team enjoyed watching and cheering each other on as we competed in several events. Brown School certainly brought on the NOISE!

Of the 46 students who competed in meet #1, we had 25 students who finished in the top 4 in their events and thus qualified for the South Final meet on June 2nd. After the June 2nd meet we had 11 students who qualified for the City Championship meet on June 11th.

A special congratulations to Grace, Robbie, Felicity, Jackson, Ben, Noah, DeMarco, Blake, Nathan, Marshall and Haleh for making it to the final round of competitions. These 11 students had several top 10 finishes at the City Championship meet and that is an amazing accomplishment. Way to go Brown!

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

GRADE 4/5

Birds were singing, the sun was shining, Frisbees were flying.

By virtue of a second-place finish at a tournament played in mid-May, the 4/5 team earned a berth in the South Conference finals against a strong squad from Old Orchard Public School.  Much to our surprise, Old Orchard quickly pulled ahead and next thing we knew we were down by four points early in the second half.

The team battled to get the score to within one as the clock was winding down and though Old Orchard ultimately prevailed, everyone agreed that the momentum had  been on our side and five more minutes might have been all it took to complete our comeback.

Thanks to all the players for an excellent season.  We look forward to doing it all again next Spring.

GRADE 6

This team was truly a team of destiny, albeit a team that had a nasty habit of falling behind in games that really mattered.  Thankfully, this team also had more than enough grit, spirit, determination and skill to dig itself out of each and every hole that it dug for itself.

An undefeated regular season (which included a friendly exhibition game against Whitney P.S.) led to a berth in the South Championships against McMurrich.  Down 5-1 in the first half, the team decided it was time to play with intention and we managed to go ahead 7-6 before McMurrich forced overtime by scoring in stoppage time.  Excellent defence and two great catches later we scored to win the South Championship banner.

The City Championships took place on June 8th and began with a semi-final match against John G. Althouse.  Again, we fell behind by two points at the half before taking charge in the second half to win 5-3.

Our final game was against Armour Heights.  Yet again, the first half ended and we were trailing 4 - 2.  An outstanding second half which featured a couple of circus-style catches (kudos to Chloe and Liam) and some lock-down defence saw Brown go on a 5-1 run to finish the game, victorious, ecstatic, and City Champions.

Thanks to all the players for a truly memorable season, to all the parents for driving the team all over the city, and to the Lucky Loonie that was buried beneath the field before our final match.
