2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

This notice is time sensitive. If you would like to share your thoughts, please do so by Wednesday, May 25th.

The teachers at Brown, along with the school administration will be meeting in the Spring to place students into their classes for next year. We spend a lot of time together aiming to form classes of children together who will work well together. When we form classes we take different things into consideration including; gender balances, learning styles and social/emotional factors. We want every child to be successful.

While we do not take requests for specific teachers, we know that you know your child best and are happy to hear from you. If you would like to share information that you feel is relevant to your child's learning and/or social well-being please e-mail Jessica (jessica.feldberg@tdsb.on.ca), Christine (christine.pouliot@tdsb.on.ca) and the classroom teacher. We will do our best to work with this information, along with the information from the teachers, to place your child in an environment that fosters their success.

DOGS

Please remember that dogs are not allowed on school property, no matter how cute or friendly. Dogs cannot be in our play area nor in the school.

GARDEN FETE IS ONLY A WEEK AWAY!!!

Our School needs your support to make it a success. If you haven't already, please:

VOLUNTEER - Your school needs your time so we can run bouncy castles, games and snacks! https://brownschoolvolunteers.bringit.bz/dashboard/3a255c

Buy your PLAY ALL DAY PASS - Send in your forms, or buy online! The Class with the most wristbands pre-sold wins a Pizza Party! https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/brown-school-garden-fete-tickets-24837336141?aff=eac2

LOOT BAGS - send in your unwanted gently used toys from the bottom of your toy box (shhh the kids will never notice) AND send in gently used books your kids no longer read!  This is win-win.

THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed their time and resources already. We're right on track to have a fantastic 99th Garden Fete!

BUILD / PLANT DAY FOR OUR SCHOOL: MAY 18, 2016

On Wednesday, May 18 the entire Brown community came together to create our first ever Edible Garden.  Parents, staff, and students worked alongside one another lining and filling milk crates with soil and then planting the little seedlings they had been growing in their classrooms.  It was amazing to watch the older students mentor and guide the younger ones; helping them use shovels, carry heavy crates, and encouraging them with kind words.

Our garden is located along the inside fence of the primary playground and will be a source of learning and growth for all of our students.  With the votes tallied earlier in the week, our garden will now be called "The Friendship Garden / le jardin de l'amitié"!  A HUGE thank you to all of our wonderful parents who came out to help plant a seed in all of our children.  Let's support and watch them (plants and children) grow together.

Please follow the Instagram account (Instagram.com/brownschoolgarden) run by Aviva Wittenberg, the wonderful parent who initiated and implemented this garden with her team of parents and teachers!

AVENUE ROAD DROP-OFF

There is NO safe drop-off zone on Avenue Road.

1. Stopping on Avenue Road to let a child out of the car is extremely unsafe.

2. The North Driveway of the school is NOT ACCESSIBLE to parents. This area needs to be reserved for AUTHORIZED users only.

Please think twice before using either of these areas to drop off your children. WE HAVE CONTACTED POLICE SERVICES TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND THEY WILL BE MONITORING THE DRIVEWAY AND AVENUE ROAD.

Driving around the block is a pain, but is it worth a life?

TRASHY TUESDAYS

Trashy Tuesdays are starting again! Please meet us in the primary playground on Tuesday May 3rd, where we'll be handing out garbage bags and your child can participate in picking up the trash in our school yard. It's a great way to contribute to our Brown Community AND it only takes 10-15 minutes! If you're interested in volunteering as a parent, please contact Jen Lockwood jealockwood@gmail.com
