Parent Council News - Oct 2012

NEXT PARENT COUNCIL MEETING
Please note this date is a change from the originally scheduled meeting.

Date/Time: October 11th at 7 p.m.
Place: Library

Childcare will be provided in the Meeting Room by qualified babysitters. All parents/caregivers are welcome. We are always delighted to see new faces at our meetings.

Agenda:
  • A discussion about the labour dispute between our teachers and the provincial government. 
    • We encourage all concerned parents to come out to the meeting
    • We want to share information on what is happening, what it may mean for the students, and what, if anything we can do as parents to help reduce its impact on our children.
  • Regular business of the Parent Council

MESSAGE FROM CO-CHAIRS: NINA MORITSUGU AND JENIFER GLOVER

Back to school 2012 was something else, wasn't it?  It's great to be back, and there certainly has been activity for Parent Council!

Former Chair: First and foremost, we would like to thank Lisa Bernstein for her leadership during the last 3 years, and we are delighted and grateful that she will continue to be involved as Vice-Chair of Parent Council.

Fall Fling: We started with an urgent Fling meeting during the first week of school, and thanks to the Fall Fling Dream Team that stepped up, the Fall Fling preparations are well underway!  Mark your calendars for November 8th, it is a fantastic event and greatly benefits the school by raising funds which help to enrich the classroom experience for our children.

New Parent Breakfast/AGM: Thank you to Katharine Lake Berz, Claire Blicker, and all the parents who helped out with baking and came out to welcome new parents. Thank you to Peter and his team for setting up the gym and to all the teachers who joined us as well.

Cross-country meet: The parents and administration pulled off a fantastic cross-country meet on Tuesday, October 2 at Ashbridge's Bay. Special thanks for to Catherine Rosebrugh, and Principal Christakis and Vice-Principal Litner. Without you, this could not have happened.

After 4 program: The After 4 program started last week and enrolment is strong.  Thank you to Kiren Singh and Cathy Steiner for pulling it all together.

Class reps & Brown Bulletin editor: Class reps are in place, thanks to Mary Ann Stewart.  A special thank you to our new editor of the Bulletin, Carol Niravong, for stepping in this year and keeping us to deadline.

Brown handbook: Thanks to Maggie Lane's heroic efforts, the Handbook is on its way! Also Maggie has worked hard to get the email blasts out and keep the website up to date.

Pizza lunch and milk: Starting this month.Thanks MC Sutton for getting this important program started again this year.

Other:Then there are lice checks, Kiss 'n Ride, wrapping paper; the volunteer efforts of our parents are outstanding and impressive.
