The Fall Fling was a smashing success! Record tickets were sold with almost 300 people attending the event and fantastic representation from staff and teachers! It was the highest attendance ever at the Fling! Thank you to all Brown School families for playing a part in making the event such a success. There were those that went out to get donations, those that helped create donations, those that organized the event itself, those that worked the event, those that publicized it, those that came out to the event and those that purchased items at the event.
Your contributions allow Brown to continue to provide an excellent student experience. Funds from the Fall Fling go to three "buckets" - extracurricular, classroom enrichment, and technology. For example scientist in school, artist in school, team busing and uniforms, speakers for kids. We surpassed our fundraising goals, and Parent Council will be updating you throughout the year on how the funds are being used.
Congratulations to Isabella P.’s parents (Rm 15, Mme Blue) for winning the early bird draw – Dinner at Scaramouche – value $175 and to James G.’s parents (Rm 30, Mr. MacDonald) for winning the Porter Airline tickets!
If you were unable to attend the event, or were so busy bidding on auction items that you did not make it to the Giving Tree table, please consider giving a donation to the Giving Tree. Donations will be accepted right up until Friday Dec 13, 2013. The Giving Tree is a way to donate directly to the school or a teacher’s wish list for materials or curriculum enhancements that directly benefit the students. All donations of $25 or more will be given tax receipts. Giving Tree forms can be found on the Brown School website

ECO CLUB NEWS
Just when you thought it was safe to sneak a Ziploc bag to school in the lunch box, guess what club is back at Brown School full steam ahead? The ECO CLUB has returned to our school with a full new leadership team and a passion to bring Brown School back up to the Platinum status our school once had!!
With Mr. Costa, Amanda Noble-Gresty and Natalie Ibrahim leading the group, we are sure to achieve Platinum this year. We would LOVE to see some parents join this important group at Brown School as well!
For those parents interested in learning about how to join this important team, please contact Lisa Bernstein at bernstl@lao.on.ca to find out more! Stay tuned for more information to come on upcoming meetings.
WORLD CHANGERS UPDATE
Thanks in large part to the efforts of approximately 30 mini superheroes, Brown School scared the pants off of hunger this October raising a record breaking 3281 pounds of food (our goal was to beat last year's total of 2000+ pounds) for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Starting with a few educational seminars lead by various staff (Michele Breslin, Arianna Silecky and Norbert Costa), World Changers took matters into their own hands organizing and promoting a school-wide food drive. Terrific spirit everyone!
Around the corner we will be working on our Holiday Hamper initiative from November 25 - December 6. Each class in the school will be assigned a family to support through the holiday season along with a list detailing a bit about the family and what their wish-list might be. There is no obligation to contribute but anything you can offer is much appreciated by these families who often are living in very challenging circumstances.
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact one of the parent co-chairs: Allison Fortier <allisonfortier@rogers.com> and Laura Finch <laura.finch@me.com>.
MOVEMBER AT BROWN
Some of the men at Brown School have embarked on a very hairy adventure! Throughout the month of November, they are going to help change the face of men's health. Mr. Costa, Mr. McNeilly, Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. D, Mr. George, Mr. Pare, Mr. Stamatopoulos and Mr. Profiti are going to grow their moustaches to help raise money for prostate cancer. Our Mo Space page on the Movember website is all set up, and you can make a donation at the following website: http://moteam.co/brown-school-mo-bros. Thank you to everyone who has already made a donation.
We would love everyone to get involved so we are declaring every Monday in November "Moustache Monday at Brown". The kids can wear or draw on their own moustaches every Monday to show their support. The more imaginative, the better! IF STUDENTS ARE GOING TO DRAW ON THEIR OWN MOUSTACHE THEY NEED TO DRAW IT ON AT HOME WITH PARENT SUPERVISION. We encourage all students who want to participate in wearing their own moustache to drop off their $1.00 donation at the main office in the moustache box! All students who make a donation will be entered in a draw to win their own personal moustache that they can proudly display every Monday.
Your Mo Bros,
Mr. Costa, Mr. McNeilly, Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. D, Mr. George, Mr. Pare, Mr. Stamatopoulos and Mr. Profiti
