THE SCHOOL DAY

We have had a wonderful week together! The smiles in the building have been great to see. We are so proud of our Panthers as they adjust to our new bell times and entry points. We thank you all for your patience as we work through the kinks.

Please remember:

The school day begins at 8:40am. It is important that students are on time each day.

Teachers will be the ones to bring the children into the building. We ask that you wave good bye from the playground.

The school day ends at 3:10pm. You can pick up your children from the school yard.
NUTS

Brown P.S. is nut-aware school. We remind you that products with nuts cannot come into the school or the playground. We have children at Brown with life-threatening nut allergies.
PARENT COUNCIL

Please see the attached documents regarding the upcoming Parent Council Elections. The elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting at 9:00 am September 27th after the Welcome Back Breakfast at 8:15 am.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students in Grades K to 6 will have two Physical Education classes per week with either Mr. Profiti or Mr. Stamatopoulos. Phys-Ed is a participatory subject and all students are encouraged to wear running shoes on the days they come to the Gym. If your child can't participate in Physical Education please send a note to your classroom teacher who will then pass it on to your child's Phys-Ed teacher.
TERRY FOX DAY @ BROWN PS

We are very happy to continue the tradition of our Toonie for Terry  fundraiser for cancer research at Brown PS. Our Terry Fox walk will take place on Thursday September 29th, 2016 when teachers will take their class on a short walk around the neighbourhood to honour Terry Fox. Beginning Monday September 19th, students can bring in their Toonie (or any other amount) to their classroom teacher. Our fundraising goal this year is $1,000.00.

**Both Football Teams (Boys and Girls) will have their tryouts take place simultaneously**

SLO-PITCH

Both the Girls and Boys Slo-Pitch Teams will also get started in the coming weeks. Grade 4 to 6 students will attend a sign-up meeting in the Gym and will be informed of tryout dates and times via the morning announcements along with information being posted on the bulletin board outside the Gym.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING TEAM (GRADE 1 to 6)

One of the most popular teams that takes place at Brown PS is our Cross Country Running Team. This team is a great opportunity for all of our students, especially our Grade 1 to 3 students, to be a part of a school team. The Cross Country Running Team coaches are meeting next week to plan out the practice schedule. More information will communicated with parents and students very soon.
TORONTO PUBLIC HEALTH

If you received a letter from Toronto Public Health, please update your child's immunization record with us using one of the following options:
If your child does not have all the needed vaccines, please contact your health care provider.
BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are an exciting time for children and adults alike! We ask that you note that Birthday Celebrations will now be teacher-lead. Treats are no longer permitted to be brought into the classroom for Birthday Celebrations. Each classroom teacher will celebrate birthdays in their way, within the class. We are aiming to be safe and inclusive, therefore being mindful of allergies and food intolerances. Thank you for your support.

PARKING, DROP OFF, AND PICK UP

Please remember:
  • For safety reasons, the Avenue Road Driveway is only to be used by TDSB Facilities staff, and Brown Administration.
  • Please remember that there is no drop-off zone on Avenue Road.
  • Kiss 'n' Ride program begins September 12th. Information on our Kiss 'n' Ride program for students in Grades 1-6 can be found here. It is located on Poplar Plains. If you wish to volunteer for Kiss 'n' Ride please contact Connie Wansbrough.
  • We have created a map depicting areas around the school that are available for parking during drop-off times.
  • There is 10 minute parking on Lynwood.
  • Please note that the parking lot off Poplar Plains is for Brown School Staff only.
USE OF THE YARD

There is supervision in the school yard from 8:25am-8:40am and from 3:10pm-3:25pm each school day. We ask that you honour these times, for the safety of your child.

At 3:25pm each day, the childcare has exclusive use of the yard, therefore students must go directly home or to a previously organized activity.

We thank you for your support.
